What I've been up to

Hello everyone! Life has been so crazy just recently I've barely had a chance to breathe let alone sit down and write a blogpost, for that I apologise, but with half term beginning this week and the looming summer I hope to find more time to ramble on here. To fill you in on all of the exciting things I have been up to I compiled a post of all my latest goings on....

The vast majority of my time has been spent on my photography exam over the past few weeks, I am sure any A level art student can sympathize with me how much work creating an exam project is, damn I thought I was never going to get those sheets finished! But I lived to tell the tale and thankfully I handed all of my work in on Friday. Success.

Sticking on the photography theme I shot at my first 'event' a few weeks ago. This was such a huge oppuritunity for me as I have dreamt of shooting at a gig for so long (combining my love for music and photography, could I find a better career? I think not.) I was so nervous that I was going to mess up and not get any good shots, thankfully this didn't happen and I managed to get some (dare I say it...) decent images. They can be found on my flickr page here.

During the little free time I've had I have been enduring a netflix binge. I finished breaking bad and moved onto vampire diaries. I'm pretty sure anyone that has communicated with me for more than 10 minutes have been made aware of my love for the Salvatore brothers. No spoilers please but I would love to know if you're team Stefan or Damon as I just can't make my mind up! (I'll take both.)

So that is a brief run down of my life over the past 2 weeks! What have you all been up to?

Maybelline Baby Skin Primer - Review

Hello everyone! I have a review post for you today of the controvertial new primer from Maybelline.

I bought this product quite a few weeks ago but have given it a really good test run before I decide to write this review. The first time I wore this primer I thought it was incredible; my foundation applied smoothly making my skin look pretty damn near perfect, it had a really nice feel and smell and impressed me in every way possible. However, I looked in the mirror a few hours after application and pretty much all of my make up had just 'melted' from my face. My skin felt oily and just generally 'icky'.

So why did you try it again Lucy? Well, I spent £8 of my own money on this, which is a lot when you are a student living off pocket money, and I really wanted to get my money's worth out of it. So that is what I did, I tried it several more times, using different moisturizers, foundations and powder and the same thing kept happening. I also noted that my skin had started to break out around my nose and chin (where I had been applying it), that for me was the final straw.

Bad move from Maybelline here but I would be interested to know if anyone has had the same problem? Or is it just my skin?

Everyday make up - FOTD

Hello everyone! Before I start this post I would just like to say that I do not class myself as any kind of make up 'expert' I usually go for the "slap it on and hope for the best" technique, sometimes that works out well and this obviously needs to be documented, today was one of those days. So here are the products I use on a daily basis....

Face: To start off my base make up I use 'POREfessional' by benefit around my nose (small sidenote - I've been using this little free sample since may and it isn't even half empty yet, I can only presume that the full size version is more than worth the money), I usually let this settle in for a few minutes whilst I get dressed (or get back into bed). I then use Rimmel Match Perfection, applied with a Real Techniques Expert Face Brush. Next I put a little bit of Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer under my eyes to cover the bags that have occurred from the previous night when I accidentally stayed up too late (happens every time). Finally I will add a little bit of bronzer to contour my face, I use the Sleek Face Form Palette for this and I really like the effect it gives my face, it slims down my chubby cheeks and hopefully minimizes my baby face.

Eyes: I use my Naked Palette and sweep sin over the whole lid, if I've got extra time I will also add hustle or toasted to the crease to give a little bit more definition. For lashes I use They're Real by benefit, as much as I do like this mascara I think it is overly priced and a little clumpy, I don't think I would repurchase it.

Lips: I keep it fairly simple on the lips, usually just using a tinted moistrizer, however I was feeling a little cray today and used a Revlon Lip butter in the shade Peach Parfait, I can never make my mind up wether I actually like this product or not, it has a really nice glossy look but it also has large 'glittery' pieces in it which can make it feel like you've got sand on your lips, very conflicting.

And here is the finished product....

Recent eBay finds

Hello everyone! Today I am sharing with you another obsession of mine, the magical world of eBay. My addiction to eBay started many years ago when I came to the realization that you could purchase literally everything for a discounted price, always a winner if you are a bargain hunter like me. In the past few months I really think I've managed to grab myself some serious bargains and obviously this means sharing them with you...

Olympus om10 film camera - £15

I am currently studying photography as an A level and I am considering using film rather than digital for my exam that's coming up, naturally this meant scouting eBay for a camera that would be suitable. I was thinking about spending around £30 on a decent fully working film camera and eventually came across this one for only £15! I haven't had any film developed yet so I can't guarantee it does work, but everything seems fine so far!

I am in love.

Floral Dr Martens - £18

This is by far my favourite item, I have been looking for a pair of dr martens for quite some time now, I knew I didn't want a plain coloured pair so floral was the way to go. I'd had my eye on a blue floral pair for a few weeks but they were £60 which was waaaay more than I wanted/could pay. Last week however I came across this red pair and it was love at first sight. I managed to win them for £18, a major bargain if you ask me.

Revlon matte lipstick in Really Red - £7

I have been looking for this particular lipstick for ages but every time I go into my local boots/superdrug it's sold out, about ready to give up I figured a quick check on eBay was worth a try, and what do you know, there it was! It wasn't any cheaper than in stores but it was in stock, which is always a bonus.

Stilla smudge pot in Kitten - £8

I actually bought this about 4 months ago but I'm still impressed that I got it for almost half price so I thought I might as well include it anyway. I'd swatched this in boots and fallen in love but sadly the price tag of £13 was more than I was willing to pay for an eye shadow base, of course as soon as I got home I went to eBay and came across this one for (almost) half the price. Sadly the product hasn't lived up to my expectations, but a bargain none the less.

Thank you for reading!

Models Own sale haul

Hello everyone! I'm a little late doing this post as sadly the Models own sale has ended already, however my package only arrived today and I still really wanted to do a post about it, hope you don't mind!

I'd been seeing a lot of hype about the new HyperGel collection both on twitter and the blogging world, so of course the nail polish addict within me had to get a slice of the action. I bought 4 shades (from left to right); Naked Glow, Turquoise Gloss, Coral Glaze and Blue Glint. My mum also bought Fuzzy Peach to make the collection up to 5 so we could get the discount, although I am sure I will be borrowing it too! I haven't tested any of the polishes yet however when I've given the HyperGels a good test drive I will for sure write a review.

All of the polishes can be bought for a very reasonable £5 from the models own website.

P.S. I'm only 1 follower away from 50 (EEEK!) on BlogLovin' and would absolutely love one of you lovely people to click that button on my sidebar! Let me know if you do and I will follow you back :)

A Night of Comedy - Review

Hello everyone! Bit of a different kind of post today, I hope you don't mind (sorry if you do!). I was asked by my lovely bestio Amber to write a blog post about the show I went to see on Saturday night, and of course I just couldn't turn down such a good offer.

So to give a brief outline - Amber attends a group within the local thearte who help to organise, advertise and generally produce various different productions. They mainly focus on music events however this particular event was a live comedy evening.

The evening started off with 4 guys who have all acted at the thearte previously. They were all amateurs and as far as I am aware had never done stand up comedy before. Despite this they were all hilarious and had me in stitches right from the moment they walked on the stage.

I stole all of these pictures from the thearte's facebook page, sorry to whoever took them!

The main 'headliner' for the evening was a comedian named Sara Pascoe. Prior to this event I had seen Sara on a few different shows and was super excited to be seeing her live in my tiny town. Sara was just as great as I had imagined her to be, she was funny, relatable and even a little inspiring despite me having no aspiration to be a comedian!

Overall I thought the live comedy evening was extremely entertaining and a true credit to all the producers who helped to organise it. Well done guys!

January Favourites 2014

Hello everyone! First of all I'd like to apologise for not blogging in a few days (10 to be precise), I've been drowning in college work and simply haven't had time to take any photos! However today I am back with my very first favorites post, so lets get cracking!

IT by Alexa Chung

I've read this book twice over the past month and I enjoyed it as much the second as I did the first. 'It' is a collection of Alexa's writing, doodles and photographs. Alexa uses the medium of words, doodles and photographs to tell stories about her early style icons, memoirs from events and even little snippets of advice such as 'How to get dressed in the morning' and 'the challenges of taking a good selfie', always good to know if you ask me. This book is super easy to read so even if you aren't into reading (like I am!) I would still highly recommend it.

Tartan Scarf
(I found mine on a local market stall, however Primark do a similar one)

I'm pretty sure every man and their dog has a tartan scarf at the moment but tartan is a trend that I simple can not resist. I've worn this scarf pretty much everyday for sixth form since we went back after christmas, it is so versatile and goes with pretty much everything, the perfect acessory for an otherwise boring outfit.

Davina Fit in 15

If you know me in real life then the chances are you are aware of how much hatred I have for physical exercise... basically if I have to walk for more than 10 meters I'm not interested. However for the past month me and my mum have been doing these 15 minute workouts a few times a week. They may only be 15 minutes long but by golly do you work hard in those 15 minutes! They slowly build in intensity throughout the duration and by the end I am usually collapsed in a heap on the floor. Nevertheless I have actually been really enjoying it, I feel fresh, de-stressed and I can also (slowly) feel myself getting some muscle definition despite not changing my eating habits in the slightest. If you are trying to get a little fitter for the new year then I strongly suggest buying this for a fun and quick workout.

Baby Lips Cherry

I'm sure you're all sick of reading about Baby lips, but nonetheless I thought I'd tell you all how much I've been loving the cherry flavour this month. Such a perfect everyday berry colour, it has been especially good at keeping my lips moisturised in the cold conditions.

Witch Blemish Stick

I'm usually fairly lucky in the skin department and only get a few small blemishes once in a while, however at the start of the month I had a major breakout! So I had a quick search through some blogs and found mainly positive reviews for this product and I was not disappointed. I kid you not within a day my spots were visibly reduced without drying my skin out like some blemish reducers have done. An all round winner if you ask me.

Maybelline Big Eyes

I actually only bought this mascara a few days ago but I can already tell that this is going to by my new holy grail mascara. I absolutely love the idea of having a separate, smaller, brush for my bottom lashes and I can't understand why more high street brands haven't invented this before now! I am thinking about doing a full review on this so let me know if you're interested in that.

Hope you enjoyed my first favourites post, thanks for reading!
